Cheat Sheet

Rundown Rules of Combat:

I want to make sure you get your money’s worth with his article.  I have never been big on UFC MMA articles in the industry because they break down every match in a ton of depth and think they know exactly what will happen.  Frankly you and I shouldn’t be here for an hour of reading expecting to come away with an encyclopedic assessment of this slate.  We need the meat and potatoes here and we need a player pool and favorite plays.  I want us both to come away from this article mutually happy and feel like Russell Crowe in Gladiator with the famous “Are you not Entertained” script line.  We want the damn money and we want to Kill this thing…Lesgo!

I have watched all Masvidal has done for the sport and I’m stoked he’s getting this opportunity, but this is a massive uphill challenge. He has to fly halfway around the world after accepting a fight on a week’s notice against one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world and maybe one of the best 170 pounders ever when it is all said and done.  Masvidal is a striker though and through and if Gilbert Burns would have still been the opponent I would have had this a as a closer fight.  I have seen many people writing this up as a spot Usman could slip but the guy has not lost since 2013 and he has only gotten better.  NO reason to fade here in a potential 5 rounder where he will accrue as an active fighter should.  I believe in Usman and have ZERO issue saying he is a lock in CASH.  He is priced below 9k and he is going too be a high output fighter on the feet.  If it gets to the mat, as evidenced by Usman’s 3.44 takedowns per 15 minutes at a 50 percent accuracy, he will certainly have no issue hitting value.  I am not looking for a finish here as Masvidal has a chin and is durable and just does not get finished ITD very much if at all.  I will plant my flag here and make a full Masvidal fade and 100% Usman ownership.  Talk to me when you collect those winnings.

Usman CASH/GPP, Masvidal GPP

We have two cardio KINGS here and one of the best to ever do it in Max Holloway.  I love watching Max fight as he just is exciting and never has a dull fight.  However he did not have the best showing against Volkanovski before and I don’t see how he can really improve much here.  I watched the replay of this fight and it showed the same thing.  AV was much more powerful and just had more to his overall game and Holloway seemed frustrated and without many options on how to figure this guy out.  AV will be able to get inside distance on Max and use his power game here.  The 7.1k price tag on Max makes me feel he is very useable in CASh games and if he was able to score a victory you can guarantee that 100 pts 100% of the time.  That is the kind of output fighter Max is.  AV is probably going to take this one and I expect high ownership but a double stack is not out of the question.  Odds makers say it is a near pick em but I would feel very comfortable betting on AV to win but I would bet on it going the distance which makes me want exposure to each guy.

Volkanovski CASH/GPP, Holloway CASH/GPP

I remember watching so many Aldo fights with my friends and just being in awe of how good this guy was.  I also remember staying up those same nights till daylight with my friends and having a blast.  Years later and kids later I can no longer hang with the best of em and I think Jose falls in the same boat unfortunately. Aldo is in a battle against an undefeated foe in Father Time but the question is can he squeeze one more UFC Hand raise and victory interview against Yan.  Sadly I say hell no.  Yan is a beast and he knows his path to victory relies on his kickboxing and striking output.  Aldo defends takedowns at a 91% clip and he will have to slow the fight down in order to even have a chance.  I really hate writing this but I think we could see Aldo get finished but the younger hungrier fighter.  Yan has impressive power and he is just the better fighter at this stage.  Aldo is way too overpriced on FD but on DK he is cheap enough if he falls into a last man in for a GPP lineups and you fade Yan then why the hell not.  Just don’t get your hopes up here.  Yan will get a knockout or more likely a unanimous decision win.

Yan CASH, Aldo GPP

I think we have a true pick-em here from the odds maker standpoint but I think the previous fight between these two was a fluke in Andrade slamming Rose to the mat and knocking her out.  Yes Andrade is stronger than Namajunas and it wasn’t a shock to see this happen because in the realm of possibilities anything like that could have happened.  Rose is one of the best Cage strategist and her ground game, which is elite, has quickly been rounded with an improving stand up game.  Andrade fought in front of a crowd last time and I really do think she won fluky fight. She was destroyed after that fight and Rose gets her revenge spot and chance to regain momentum after a 13 month hiatus.  Andrade will garner CASh game ownership because of her price and Rose could at the same stance be considered overpriced here with some of the other options at that same price point on a big slate.  So Rose will be low owned, with a high ceiling built in which makes her a favorite tournament buy for me.

Andrade CASH, Namajunas GPP

I love watching both these fighters and we get Ribas put in a spot with a big name to help catapult her in to there championship picture.  PVZ is a marketable name, face and she just draws money but from a fighting standpoint she is on her last leg.  She had some decent grappling/submission skills rely in her career and she has just declined fight after fight.  I’m a PVZ fan but the reasoning for that is exactly why I recognize Ribas is the real damn deal.  Full VanZant fade here with a Ribas rout in play.  I can see a 100+ outing in her future even if we have two pay for it.  I won’t say she is a must play but if you can afford it she is a lock for a win.  L O C K
