What to expect from this article:  I will be breaking down a preferred player pool by position and having notes about specific matchups.  Once we see some games played we can possibly provide an expected lineup and formations.  Lineups usually release about 30-90 minutes before a game, so my best advice is jump into our Discord Chat and our Team can advise you of lineup plays and questions can be asked. Good Luck!

DFS Soccer Run-down:

We will be targeting two different type of lineup builds between DK and FD.

On Draftkings you are awarded for crosses and will want players that accumulate stats by playing wide, attacking or on. set pieces.  When a player is on “Sets” this simply means he is favored to be the player on the ball for corner kicks and free kicks.  Each corner kick usually results in a cross and you will see guys accrue a goals worth of fantasy points by crosses alone.  Shots on goal are also a juicy stat but much harder to predict.  So generally if you hear a guy is on “Sets” then he will be a target for DK and even more so if he is on a betting favorite.  DFS Soccer has a lot to do with possession of the ball.  The more a team has the ball, then ideally the more. stats they can accrue.

Fanduel works a bit differently as Goals and tackles are much more of a desired stat and Goal scorers and Centre backs (CBs) come in to play.  Checking expected anytime Goal scoring Odds is very helpful as well.  You can still accrue stats but picking out the goal scorers becomes much more important.  Also having a winning goalkeeper is much more important because of their scoring system.

Diagram Key:  RED CIRCLES (Set takers/Preferred CASH plays), GREEN CIRCLES (CASH plays), YELLOW SQUARE (GPP plays)…If a Player is underlined in Red it means he has taken SET pieces before and could steal a few.

Brighton vs Manchester United

Game Notes:  This one should be fun as we have another huge Prize Pool up for grabs on Draftkings.  Man U comes in needing 3 points in the EPL table to be able to match Wolverhampton on games played, points and ultimately they will jump Wolves by goal differential.  This matters because the 5th place in the EPL table means an automatic berth in to European football with a Europa League invite.  This would also out Man U in striking distance of Chelsea and Leicester City with only 2 and 3 points behind fourth and third place respectively.  This would be the target for Man U as their up and down season has them playing for these berths since Liverpool has already incredibly locked up the EPL crown.  Brighton on the other hand sits lower in the table only 6 points above safety of relegation.  They cannot afford to give away points so I expect they will press here at home to come away with points.

Manchester United:  Let’s start with the expected lineup as we see the Do-It-All SET taker Bruno Fernandes in his usual centralized attacking midfielder role.  If you have read any of my other articles you will know this guy is a stud and he fits the DFS profile especially on Draftkings we look for in a CASH game CORE piece along with a popular captain choice due to his SET piece dominance and penalty kick taking.  He has transformed Man U this season and a big reason they are not siting in the middle of the EPL table.  He is going to be a lock play in most formats if not all of them.  I do take interest at the potential of Paul Pogba being in the expected starting 11.  Pogba has battled injury and media scrutiny this year as the Manchester United fan base can be very temperamental and although they praise Pogba when he is performing his magician like passes and scoring goals they also love to knock him when he is not fit and misses a lot of time.  Pogba is listed as a CASH play here but he is actually more of a boom bust type of play, as there is a great possibility he will be involved in some majestic play through ball which puts a goal scorer in a terrific position.  He is a World Class passer and has great touch.  He is very interesting today and I think he may go low owned so keep Pogba in mind for GPP.  The attacking trio of Marcus Rashford, Daniel James and Anthony Martial will be heavily targeted by DFS players as Man U will be a dominant possessive side of the ball today.  Any of these 3 can score goals and Rashford and Martial especially as the two have linked up for a combined 38 goals this season in all competitions with 19 a piece.  I don’t think you will be able to fit everyone you want here, but this trio will be very involved today.  We may see Mason Greenwood in over James and  I would expect him to be lower owned but he is an All World talent in the making.  The Fullback pairing of Brandon Williams and Diego Dalot are not the usual starting pair we would see from United here but they are plenty capable of delivering a CASH game type of floor with assist upside from them slinging in crosses.  My last take here is don’t sleep on Harry Maguire.  I touted Ben Mee yesterday as a possible goal threat on SET pieces and Maguire is also a cheaper piece we can look to as a “last Man U player in the lineup” type of piece.  He is heavily involved on SET pieces as a target man and he has been known to creep to the outside of the box and watching Maguire he has some finishing skill for a Center back. **UPDATE:  Greenwood is in so no Daniel James.  They have the big boy fullbacks in also in Shaw and Wan-Bissanka which makes United even more dangerous today.  Both are excellent plays for CASh and have GPP upside.**

Brighton:  BHA come in as a pretty hefty home underdog and it is expected that they will be struggling to grab possession here.  Watching a lot of EPL one thing Manchester United do very well is play their speed forward and there is a lot of it.  Brighton has some sound technical players but they will be forced to play to their weakness in trying to keep up the pace with this Man U team.  Aaron Mooy is not physically an imposing player as he is more stationery in the midfield and SET pieces is where he makes his impact.  Open play is not suited to this team so outside of Troussard and Lamptey most of the Man U side will dominate them with speed.  Troussard and Solly March in the front 3 are both pieces to consider as one offs or in a two man BHA stack against 4 other Man U players in a lineup.  Tariq Lamptey is a former Chelsea academy and first team sporadic player at Leftback.  Lamptey is actually very fast so the right side of the BHA defense will not be lacking speed.  He is still very young so I imagine mental errors will be present.  Dan Burn in the (Burn is Back 3 now so he is out of my player pool)  Rightback position is nothing to write home about and frankly is not someone i have a ton of interest in.  I think no Pascal Gross makes me very disinterested in this BHA side but it is more to the fact that Man U comes in very hot and should just dominate.  There is GPP leverage to playing a BHA stack and it will be low owned.  If you do play BHA stacks make sure to include Maupay (Connolly is in) and maybe the BHA goalkeeper together.  **UPDATE:  Super yikes man!!  This BHA side is not good at all.  They appear to be playing super defensive.  Alexis McAllister will be the man on SETs and he is cheap.  This BHA side though is not good at all.  Be wary of playing more than 2 in any lineup.**

Goalkeeper

  1. I do not Tout GKs for DFS soccer because anything can happen.  Here is my thoughts though for this position.
  2. Try to not play a GK against your attacking players.  Unless it is a small slate (3 games or less).
  3. I usually don’t like to pay up for GK unless I think the bottom of the pool Keepers could legitimately go negative.
  4. GKs can be scored on and still be great plays.  Saving a shot on goal and giving up a goal can net a zero.  Clean sheet bonuses and wins both give you Dfs points but it is much easier to predict shot volume against than predicting clean sheets.  I have seen -15000 favorites give up a goal in soccer so nothing is for certain.  If you pay at GK for a huge favorite you may not have your GK see any shots at all which severely hampers your upside.
  5. I usually target the Cheapest GK (normally playing at home) that isn’t against the huge favorites.

Do not forget to get in our Discord Chat.  The Author of this article may not play all the plays listed, as these plays could change based of confirmed lineups.  This article is meant to help with the lineup production process.  Good Luck!
