Home Run Derby 5/21

The Home Run Derby will list 2-3 players that are in prime power hitting spots. To get the full upside of each players performance, they should be included in a team stack as well as possible one offs.

Gary Sanchez/Luke Voit- The Yanks are once again in Baltimore, this time taking on David Hess. Simply put, Hess isn’t very good. He has a 5.49 xFIP, 50% fly ball rate and is giving up contact at 80.9%. He relies almost exclusively on 2 pitches to righties, a 92 mph fastball and a slider. Throwing is fastball 55% of time time and slider 37%.

The Yanks has a whole have very good numbers against 92-94 mph fastballs, with only DJ LeMahieu and Gio Urshela falling short of .200 ISO. Leading the way is Sanchez with a crazy .524 wOBA, .481 ISO, 46% hard contact and average distance of 381 feet! Voit has an equally impressive .446 wOBA and .444 ISO. Voit has stronger stats against righties as a whole with a .393 wOBA and .260 ISO against righties.

This is a great spot for not just Sanchez, but a full Yanks stack. They will be popular, but for good reason. My top Yanks are Sanchez, Voit and Torres (Update* Hicks sandwiched in between these 3 and makes a perfect stack, give me 2-5 stack!). Expect at least 1, if not multiple, to homer. As a bonus, check out these Torres numbers against Hess!

Daniel Vogelbach– The Mariners are in Arlington taking on the Rangers once again. The Rangers are rolling out Lance Lynn. Lynn has had a respectable season but has avoided having to pit at home most of the season. In his 3 loan starts at home, he gave up 5 earned, 2 earned and 7 earned. As you will see below, Globe Life Park is most definitely a hitters park, especially to lefties, with above average stats allowed in every category!

What makes Vogelbach especially intriguing tonight is his power. He has a .423 wOBA and whopping .346 ISO against righties over the past 365 days. Vogelbach got a rest day yesterday but did pinch hit, launching a 2 run homer off the bench. Kid is really good and having a monster season.

Good luck tonight and may the dongs be in your favor!
