Home Run Derby 5/27

Happy Memorial Day! Time to enjoy a day off and watch some baseball!

Derek Dietrich– The Reds are at home taking on Nick Kingham of the Pirates in game 1 of a double header. Kinham is in the midst of a dreadful season and only starting due to a lack of bodies and the double header. He has an xFIP of 5 and just awful numbers to both sides of the plate, but especially lefties. He has an unbelievably bad .431 wOBA and .323 ISO against lefties.

Dietrich finds himself batting cleanup today in a smash spot. He has a .351 wOBA and .202 ISO against righties, both above average. All 13 of Dietrich’s homers have come against righties this season. Not only do I like Dietrich here, but Kingham has been so bad that you could do a full Reds stack here, lefties and righties. Dietrich/Suarez/Puig/Winker are my preferred plays here.

Juan Soto- Oh boy, Soto is waking up after his slow start and waking up in a big way. Soto is facing Jose Urena and the Marlins today. Urena gives up a .323 wOBA and .172 ISO to lefties. Soto hits righties to the tune of .392 wOBA and .220 ISO.

What I love about Soto is even if he doesn’t homer here, he provides a solid floor with his almost .400 wOBA. Plus, he hits lefties well so a lefty out of the Pen won’t kill his upside. Look for Soto to continue to his hot streak and hopefully send one long! I like a 3-5 stack of the Nats today, you could fill it out with 2 or 6.

Bonus: Christian Yelich and the Brewers run away with my stat rankings today but have weather to deal with tonight. Keep an eye on the forecast. If the game is good to go, Yelich/Grandal/Moustakas all top my rankings.
