Bryce Harper– Bryce makes his first appearance here, but for good reason. Tonight he and the Phillies are back home taking on Adam Wainwright and the Cards. Adam Wainwright is not the same pitcher he once was and the numbers reflect that. Wainwright has a 4.8 xFIP while especially struggling against lefties with a .376 wOBA and .196 ISO against.
Bryce carries a .365 wOBA and a .241 ISO against righties. Whats more is Harper hits 3 of Adam Wainwrights 4 most thrown pitches at a high level. With a .200+ ISO against the Cuve, Sinker and 88-90 mph fastball (Wainwright throws 89 mph fastball). Looking over these numbers, it comes as no surprise that Harper has had a fair amount of success against Wainwright in his career.
Ryan Braun– The Brewers are in Minnesota taking on Devin Smeltzer, a rookie making his big league debut. With Pineda hitting the IL, the Twins decided to give Smeltzer a shot. Smeltzer has decent minor league numbers, but very little of that coming at AAA, with only 24.2 innings of AAA experience.
The Brewers are a brutal matchup for your big league debut and Ryan Braun is a big reason why. Even though he is not the same MVP type player of old, he still has elite numbers vs. lefties, with a .344 wOBA, .264 ISO and .604 xSLG. Look for Braun and the Brewers to make life tough on the young pitcher. I like 1-6 for the Brewers, with my favorites being 1-4, but also don’t ever sleep on Hernan Perez against a lefty.
Bonus: Some mini stack gpp pairings I like: Story/Arenado, Mookie/J.D, Encarnacion/Haniger
