What to expect from this article:  I will be breaking down a preferred player pool by position and having notes about specific matchups.  Once we see some games played we can possibly provide an expected lineup and formations.  Lineups usually release about 30-90 minutes before a game, so my best advice is jump into our Discord Chat and our Team can advise you of lineup plays and questions can be asked. Good Luck!

DFS Soccer Run-down:

We will be targeting two different type of lineup builds between DK and FD.

On Draftkings you are awarded for crosses and will want players that accumulate stats by playing wide, attacking or on. set pieces.  When a player is on “Sets” this simply means he is favored to be the player on the ball for corner kicks and free kicks.  Each corner kick usually results in a cross and you will see guys accrue a goals worth of fantasy points by crosses alone.  Shots on goal are also a juicy stat but much harder to predict.  So generally if you hear a guy is on “Sets” then he will be a target for DK and even more so if he is on a betting favorite.  DFS Soccer has a lot to do with possession of the ball.  The more a team has the ball, then ideally the more. stats they can accrue.

Fanduel works a bit differently as Goals and tackles are much more of a desired stat and Goal scorers and Centre backs (CBs) come in to play.  You can still accrue stats but picking out the goal scorers becomes much more important.  Also having a winning goalkeeper is much more important because of their scoring system.

Diagram Key:  RED CIRCLES (Set takers/Preferred CASH plays), GREEN CIRCLES (CASH plays), YELLOW SQUARE (GPP plays)…If a Player is underlined in Red it means he has taken SET pieces before and could steal a few.

Expected Lineups

Manchester United vs Southampton

Confirmed Lineup

**Update:  Che Adams in for Shane Long is the only change for SOU and frankly its a wash as both are extreme GPP only.  United has the exact same lineup as expected so all of the previous notes apply.  For BUILDING STRATEGY your decision will come down to “Do you think Southampton will score?”  Because that may dictate your decision here.  Personally I think the United keeper DDG is not worth stressing about unless you full stack united and CAPT DDG or AWB in a defensive stack.  SOU is good enough to hang around with United but I will be looking at 4-2 builds more than likely in United’s favor.  BRUNO is the optimal CPT build for CASH but if you wanna get some extra room for United studs you can very well go with AWB there.  The biggest leverage with not playing DDG is you can play Ings since if you think SOU scores it will probably be him or James Ward-Prowse (JWP) on a penalty kick.  Be careful on Bertrand here.  He seems cheap enough but that is AWB’s side and he will be pinned back quite a bit.**

Game notes:  It is all about Bruno Fernandes for Man U and rightfully so.  He does it all and just does not have very many bad games.  He is going to dominate the SET pieces here and Man U need every single point the rest of the way so I expect him to play every minute possible.  I want to highlight my favorite play today based on value and play style…. ENTER Aaron Wan-Bissaka.  The right back has been superb for United since coming over from Crystal Palace.  Not traditionally a right back by trade but AWB has soon become one of the best all around fullbacks in the EPL.  He plays as an attacking winger when coming forward and overlapping and United trust him with the ball in the box.  His speed allows him to fall back on defense also and accrue tackling and defensive stats.  Do not get me wrong, Bruno is the overall best play but when AWB gets an assist or maybe a goal today against a shaky back line you will thank me for making sure he is 100% in all your lineups.  Mason Greenwood has been absolutely on fire lately and people will flock to him here if he starts.  He has a style of play that puts his ceiling in the 30 point range.  I think Martial may still be a fade for me.  I just do not think he is a true striker and is much better playing on the wing.  Ighalo would be a nice sight as he hunts goals and positions his strong frame gives him the true striker position that Martial lacks.  Mason Greenwood is always the one I struggle with.  Bruno taking PK duty from him takes a lot of the shine from rostering him.  I will see how my lineup fits before I pull the trigger there.  Paul Pogba is doing Paul Pogba things and he is always keen to put a world class pass in to play and he is always lower owned than he should be.  Luke Shaw has been meh lately and his work rate sucks and he is used more defensively than previous years.  We should have James Ward-Prowse in and over all the SET pieces for SOU and he is always in play against a Top EPL side.  He seems to get up for BIG games and I wouldn’t say Man U will completely roll SOU.  Danny Ings looks to secure the golden boot for the TOP scorer in the league so expect him to be a key cog if SOU has a chance today.  I expect the fullbacks for Southampton to be pinned back today so my interest level on Bertrand and KWP is very low.  Stuart Armstrong has been solid lately and in play for CASH games.  Nathan Redmond also has a nice floor but I would not prioritize him.

Goalkeeper

  1. I do not Tout GKs for Dfs soccer because anything can happen.  Here is my thoughts though for this position.
  2. Try to not play a GK against your attacking players.  Unless it is a small slate (3 games or less).
  3. I usually don’t like to pay up for GK unless I think the bottom of the pool Keepers could legitimately go negative.
  4. GKs can be scored on and still be great plays.  Saving a shot on goal and giving up a goal can net a zero.  Clean sheet bonuses and wins both give you Dfs points but it is much easier to predict shot volume against than predicting clean sheets.  I have seen -15000 favorites give up a goal in soccer so nothing is for certain.  If you pay at GK for a huge favorite you may not have your GK see any shots at all which severely hampers your upside.
  5. I usually target the Cheapest GK (normally playing at home) that isn’t against the huge favorites.

Do not forget to get in our Discord Chat.  The Author of this article may not play all the plays listed, as these plays could change based of confirmed lineups.  This article is meant to help with the lineup production process.  Good Luck!
