NHL DFS Notes (FREE) 1/8

Hey NHL fans! I have decided to take a break from my top plays article so that I can provide some more content for other sports. But don’t worry, I am a NHL fan and still doing my research so I won’t be leaving you empty handed. In place of the detailed Top Plays article, I will be providing a quick notes writeup. This will be a few stats worth noting, maybe a few plays, line changes/injuries of note, etc. Between the notes, NHL cheat sheet and NHL Report Card, you will easily have everything you need to compete on a nightly basis. One stop shop for all things NHL!

Back with a 3 game slate tonight.

Vegas totals courtesy of fantasylabs.com

As you can see, Vegas likes this to be a pretty straight forward slate with Toronto and Washington being the teams to pay up for while Ben Bishop is the goalie to play. That is fine with stick with that tonight but on a small slate, I think you can go against the grain and have a real shot at a big night. Let’s take a look at some stats that have me leaning away from Vegas tonight.

Assuming Carter Hart starts for Philly (Elliot started last night), I am lower on Washington than Vegas is. Hart has a sensational 1.49 goals against at home this year with a .947 save percentage. Granted, Washington is scoring an impressive 3.61 goals per road game and just dismantled Ottawa last night. But for a small slate, consider Hart as a GPP goalie and little to no Washington exposure.

The other spot I think you can be different for GPP’s tonight, or cash if you don’t mind the risk, is with your goalie. I already mentioned Hart as a GPP goalie, another goalie I like is Jonathan Quick. Quick has a respectable 2.54 goals against average at home, 2nd best mark on the slate. He is also taking on a Dallas squad that is only averaging 2.71 goals per game on the road.

Note: Ben Bishop will be popular in cash games

Regardless of what direction you go tonight, Toronto is a priority. Auston Matthews continues his insane play at home with 22 goals in 21 home games + 12 assists. He is the top priority on the slate. Mitch Marner is my 2nd favorite Maple Leaf as he is paired with Matthews on the top line. Outside of those 2, the entire top 6 and both power play units are viable here.

If you want to go the chalkier route, Washington will obviously be a popular stack as well. Backstrom, Carolson and Ovechkin (always popular when Washington has a high total) are all “A” plays on today’s Report Card but the rest of the top 6 is viable as well. Don’t forget about Lars Eller who is running hot if you need value.

A few value/punt plays to consider to help you fit today’s studs.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel- exposure to the Flyers top 6 and 2nd power play unit for near minimum price.

Jakub Voracek/Sean Couturier (Draftkings Values)- Somehow both are priced below 5k on Drafkings. Couturier is one of only 3 “A+” plays today while Voracek has 7 assists his last 5 games.

Keep in mind there are a few value plays sprinkled in with Toronto and Washington top 6 and/or power play units. Those are viable plays as well as the value from the top 6/power play units for the Flyers.

GPP Stack- Los Angeles Kings 1

To clarify, I have 0 issues going the “chalk” route tonight in cash. I simply want to provide some pivot options and some reasons behind them for GPP builds or ballsy cash builds.

Good luck!
