Let’s get started!
Nolan Arenado- Over 8. Arenado and the Rockies are taking on Cole Irvin and the Phillies. Irvin made his big league debut and was fantastic, going 7 innings with only 1 earned. So why pick Arenado? Irvin relies on accuracy and a 4 pitch mix to get guys out. Only throwing 87 mph on average his first start. He got away with it against a poor Royals lineup but will struggle to find that same success against Arenado. Arenado has only faced fastballs that slow a few times in his career and he took advantage. With a 1.318 wOBA and 1.6 ISO against <88 mph fastballs (very small sample size), Arenado has crushed the few pitches he has seen that slow. Add in the fact that he has an insane .489 wOBA and .418 ISO and you have all the ingredients for a Nado bomb.
Jacob deGrom- Over 43. DeGrom has crushed the Marlins this year in both starts, allowing 1 earned run and striking out 22 batters across 14 innings! This comes as no surprise considering the Marlins are very righty heavy and deGrom owns righties. DeGrom owns a .215 wOBA and .09 ISO against righties over the past 365 days. On top of that, deGroms strike out pitch, the slider, is a pitch the Marlins are dreadful against. With only Granderson having an ISO over .200.
Always double check that the projections have not changed. If they have, fade.
