Xfinity Series – Kentucky Motor Speedway – Shady Rays 200

The Xfinity Series heads to Kentucky this week for the Shady Rays 200. This is a 134 lap race around one of my personal favorite tracks. Normally I am in attendance for this race, but since COVID i will not be there this week. This is the 1st race of 2 for the Xfinity Series here. This is a 1.5 mile track with 17-degree banking in turns 1 and 2 and 14-degree banking in turns 3 and 4. Last years race only saw 2 non stage break cautions and had 8 different leaders, but Cole Custer and Christopher Bell lead 160 of 200 laps. So we are looking at 1 to 2 dominators for this race. Lets dive in:

Dominators:

Noah Gragson – Gragson drew the pole spot for tomorrow night’s race, making him a chalky 1st dominator. Noah has 6 top 5 finishes thus far this year and I really like him on the pole tomorrow. In last years Noah stared 3rd and finished 6th. If he can the clean air to start, i see him leading a good chunk of the race.

Ross Chastain- Ross has a top 10 finish in ever race this year minus 1. He has been as good as they come in the Xfinity Series. Ross does not have a good history here, but he also has never started this far up nor has he had this good of a car. He is starting 2nd and I like him a lot if he can get ahead of Gragson to start the race.

Chase Briscoe- Chase continues to be the best driver in the series. He has 3 wins in his last 4 race and his only trip to Kentucky in an Xfinity car has seen him finish 5th. He is starting 7th, which gives him a little place differential and i expect to see him contending for the win at the end of the race.

Austin Cindric- Cindric has been a boom or bust play the last few weeks. He is either finishing top 5 or wrecking out. That is the kind of driver he is. This year he is starting 12th and that might actually help him. The last 2 races for Cindric at Kentucky he has dropped spots and only has 1 top 10 finish. If he can keep his car clean, then he should be there at the end. He is more of a GPP play due to his boom or bust here.

Justin Haley- Here is a driver that isnt going to wow you. But he always seems to be starting inside the top 10, and always seems to be finishing where close to where he started. He has a win and a 2nd place finish in the last 3 races. He does have 1 top 10 here in one try. I like Haley as a sneaky dominator this week.

Best of the Rest
Justin Allgaier (9 top 10s and 4 top 5s in 13 races)
Harrison Burton
Brandon Jones
Michael Annett
Ryan Seig

Place Differential:

Myatt Snider- Snider is another one of those drivers that have been up and down since the restart. But one thing is for sure, when he is starting this far back, he typically gains spots. The main reason i am not lock butting him is his price, he makes it tougher to get the better dominators in your lineup. If you are able to get to him, i am all for it tomorrow in cash.

Riley Herbst – Riley has been very good recently, 2 top 10s in his last 4 races. I was one that wasnt big on him early in the year, but he has grown on me. He has one race here and he finished 11th. He is in the KB #18 truck tomorrow, therefore i know he will have speed. I like him to get a top 12 and help pay off that salary.

Tommy Martins – Wish is price was a bit lower, but you can pass up Martins starting 36th tomorrow. Now he will not be anywhere close to the lead tomorrow, but all we need him to do is pick up 15ish spots and we are sitting nice with him.

Joe Graf JR – I have been riding Graf the last few weeks, with mix results. I like him starting 31st, as i think there are cars that are slower than his in front of him. Joe just needs to avoid the wreck or car trouble and he should hit value tomorrow. Solid value piece for cash tomorrow.

Jeremy Clements – As good as Clements has been this year, this pick is a bit risky. Clements does not have good track history, in fact he has 16 starts here in the xfinity series and only 7 top 20 finishes. His best finish here is 12th and that was all the way back in 2010 (when he drove the for Butt Paste sponsored car). Clements has had 2 very good races the last 2 weeks and i can see him continuing that here tomorrow. He is a bit risky in cash for his price, but i do like him as a low owned GPP play.

Kyle Weatherman – Mike Harmon racing is here to stay! LOL i kid, but Weatherman has put up 2 straight top 15 finishes. He has shown speed the last 2 weeks and he is a very skilled young driver. He is starting 30th, so 15 places gained, would be a nice floor for a cheap driver. I like him in all formats.

NOTE: Join us tomorrow, July 9th around 5 PM EST for a live breakdown and chat of tomorrows race. We will go over all the drivers and how to start your cash and GPP builds. Message us on Twitter for more details.
